Welcome to the Donald Cook Detachment! (short version)
We were formed in 1985 and honored
to be able to name our detachment after
Donald G. Cook, who died as a p.o.w. in Vietnam while trying to save his fellow
prisoners.

We have a float which the detachment
built and is a scale model of a LCVP which we use in parades typically Memorial
day weekend and Fourth of July weekend.
We have a picnic at Sandbar State
Park in late August. We organize the Marine Corps Ball, typically at the Elks
Club in North Burlington as close as possible to the Corps birthday on Nov.
10th.
We put out toy barrels for our
"Toys for Kids" campaign in early Nov. and retrieve them just before
Christmas. See our other website toys

Uniforms: Start by getting the cover and emblems from
our quartermaster - currently Barbara Kaufmann (Know your hat size)
The basic uniform is called the
undress uniform and consists of a white aviator style shirt (shoulder epaulets)
and creases. Short sleeve for summer (no tie) and long sleeve for winter
(requires a black tie). Pants are either
dress blues with narrow NCO red stripe and Marine web belt and buckle or black
trousers with black belt ,black socks, and plain toe shined black shoes.
